My Sweet Land: Film Screening and Panel Discussion

Join us for a screening of award-winning documentary My Sweet Land, followed by a panel discussion including director Sareen Hairabedian, on Thursday September 18! 

Registration is required for this event, and attendees must register by Tuesday September 16th at 5pm. Please register here. Same-day registration will not be available. Be sure to bring a photo ID and arrive at leas 15 minutes early to check in and have a snack. No signs, banners, instruments, amplified devices or noisemakers are allowed at this event. Snacks will be served before the screening. 

An 11-year-old boy growing up in Nagorno-Karabakh/ Artsakh dreams of becoming a dentist, but new hostilities force him to flee with his family. Upon returning to his surviving village, he confronts devastation, new power dynamics, and an education that prepares the children for near-future battles. Following the screening, join director Sareen Hairabedian, Berkeley Journalism’s Jennifer Redfearn, and Myrna Douzjian of the Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures for a conversation and Q&A about the film. Betsy Popken, executive director of the Human Rights Center, and Dzovinar Derderian, executive director of the Armenian Studies Program, will introduce the film.
