Spring 2026 Law, Economics, and Social Science Colloquium presents "When Capture Fails: Political Realignment and Bank Entry Regulation in the Great Depression" Chenzi Xu University of California, Berkeley Friday, March 6th, 2:30 - 4:20 pm Selznick Seminar Room (102) JSP Building 2240 Piedmont Avenue . . . Chenzi Xu focuses on finance, international economics, and economic history, studying the relationship between financial institutions and capital flows and trade, with an emphasis on how historical events influence modern economic outcomes. She is an Assistant Professor of Economics at the University of California, Berkeley, and previously served as an Assistant Professor of Finance at the Stanford Graduate School of Business. Her research examines the role of financial markets in international economics, including how bank regulation affects trade and structural transformation, and how trade finance can function as industrial policy. She received her PhD in Economics from Harvard University.
