Health and Life Science Law Society (HaLS): “The Politics and Policy of Health Law” – Professor Talha Syed

Friday, August 29, 2025 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Health and Life Science Law Society (HaLS) is a student organization at at Berkeley Law dedicated to supporting students interested in biotechnology law, health policy, and related areas in the life sciences. We host guest speaker events, networking opportunities, and mentorship programs while fostering a strong community for anyone exploring these fields. All students are welcome to join!

Please join us on Aug. 29th 1-2pm in Room 170 for a discussion with Professor Talha Syed on “The Politics and Policy of Health Law.”

“Ever since the 1965 passage of Medicare and Medicaid as part of the “Great Society” of Lyndon Johnson’s Administration, healthcare policy has been a lightening rod of American politics, from the high-profile efforts at healthcare reform roiling the Clinton Administration in the 1990s, to the role of the Affordable Care Act in mobilizing both support and hostility to the Obama Administration, through to their continued centrality in the politics of both Trump Administrations. This talk will pinpoint the central policy issues posed by healthcare administration in the U.S. and discuss their highly loaded ideological valence in American political debates.”

Please RSVP here by EOD Wednesday, August 27, 2025. Lunch will be provided!
