The Consumer Advocacy and Protection Society (CAPS) and Law Students of African Descent (LSAD) are thrilled to host Clothilde “Cloey” V. Hewlett (Berkeley Law, ’79), the Commissioner of the California Department of Financial Protection & Innovation (DFPI). Commissioner Hewlett is a co-founder and served as the first president of the Black Women Lawyer’s Association of Northern California. She has been recognized countless times significant contributions to her field, including the Trailblazer of the Year Award by Leadership California, the Black Women Lawyers of Northern California Outstanding Achievement Award and Lifetime Achievement Award, CAA’s Excellence in Service Award, the Wiley Manuel Law Foundation Legal Pioneer Award, and many others.
The DFPI regulates financial institutions, from Big Banks and securities brokers, to student loan and fintech companies, and more. It is California’s premiere financial regulation agency and one of the strongest means of protecting consumers nationwide.
These events are open only to UC Berkeley Law students, faculty, and staff, unless otherwise noted.
