Event Navigation

The Consumer Advocacy and Protection Society (CAPS) is delighted to host Assemblymember Rebecca Bauer-Kahan, Chair of the Privacy and Consumer Protection Committee of the California Assembly.
During the 2024 legislative session, over a dozen of the bills authored by the Member were signed into law by Governor Gavin Newsom. The bills expand protections under the CCPA to include AI to ensure stronger consumer privacy rights (AB 1008), safeguard artists and performers from posthumous exploitation by artificial intelligence (AB 1836), protect abortion care providers and patients by increasing penalties for harassment (AB 2099) and ensure incarcerated pregnant individuals have access to clean water, nutritious food, and greater protection from solitary confinement (AB 2527).
Member Bauer-Kahan recently introduced AB 56, legislation aimed at addressing the growing mental health crisis among adolescents caused by social media use, and AB 222, a bill designed to address the growing energy demands of AI development.
The Assembly Privacy and Consumer Protection Committee has jurisdiction over matters related to privacy, the protection of personal information (including digital information), the security of data, and information technology, as well as false advertising, and consumer protection generally.
