Federalism Under the Trump Administration Conference

Friday, November 3, 2017 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

A one-day conference, that will explore “federalism in practice.” As we examine the current legal and political landscape, what opportunities does our federated system open up and foreclose? How do the realities of federalism impact the work of policymakers, judges, administrators, advocates, and organizers? Does today’s “federalism in practice” require us to alter our understandings of federalism itself?

We hope to explore such questions through deep dives into pressing policy areas. We are particularly interested in policy areas that are salient to California. For example:

— immigration, citizenship, and residency
— civil rights enforcement
— crime and policing, including police accountability, responses to sexual violence, and the collection and use of “big data”
— national security, including counterterrorism and counterintelligence
— social welfare, including healthcare2028
— environmental regulation and deregulation, including around the issue of climate change
