What happens to your stuff after you die? Who makes key medical and financial decisions for you if you become incapacitated? Estate planning isn’t just for the wealthy or the elderly — it’s for anyone who has a bank account, a social media profile, or someone they care about. Whether you’re 22 or 72, join us for a free lunch session where we’ll break down the essential documents everyone should know about (wills, powers of attorney, and healthcare directives), explain how certain account types and beneficiary designations can transfer your assets directly to loved ones without court involvement, and demystify probate (the legal — and avoidable — process by which a court oversees the distribution of your estate). We’ll talk through how to actually put together an estate plan, when it makes sense to consult an attorney, how to protect your digital life, and what parents of minor children need to think about. Come learn practical information to help you make informed decisions about something that affects everyone — eventually.
This session is part of an educational series on exercising your legal rights as a consumer sponsored by the Center for Consumer Law & Economic Justice.
Lunch provided!
Please RSVP for headcount purposes! (Lunch provided on a first come, first served basis!)
