Elite Capture and Deference Politics: APALSA Community Discussion

Wednesday, February 11, 2026 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Over a dark brown background with a grayscale image of a person with a suit, the person\'s head hidden by a tipped red oval. The words ELITE CAPTURE & DEFERENCE POLITICS take up more than half the image - with ELITE CAPTURE in white serif font and DEFERENCE POLITICS in white sans-serif text. The \"&\" is in curly serif font. Beneath the event title, a flat image of a red phoenix and the words \"APALSA Community Discussion\" in white, thin Times New Roman. Across the bottom, \"Join us for lunch and to discuss: “Being-in-the-Room Privilege: Elite Capture and Epistemic Deference” by Olúfẹ́mi O. Táíwò\" (title of the article in sans serif text, all other words in this segment in \"handwriting\" font.) The QR code to RSVP, a TinyURL link (under the words \"RSVP required:\" in small red text), and the event date, time, and location information are all on the poster.

Interested in chatting about social justice, community, and identity? Join us for the first spring meeting of APALSA’s new Community Discussion series! In February, we’ll read and discuss “Being-in-the-Room Privilege: Elite Capture and Epistemic Deference” by Olúfẹ́mi O. Táíwò.

Attendance for this event is capped at 12 people, so RSVP here to reserve a spot! Lunch provided.
