Defending Our Rights, Fighting For Our Future: The ACLU’s Cecillia Wang
Wednesday, October 28, 2026 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Event Navigation

Join the Asian American Research Center at UC Berkeley for a rare, exclusive conversation between ACLU National Legal Director Cecillia Wang ‘92 and author and cultural critic Jeff Chang ‘89. This year, Wang argued and won the landmark Supreme Court case defending birthright citizenship, Trump v. Barbara. She has spent more than two decades at the ACLU fighting for civil rights and civil liberties.
Wang will tell the story of how birthright citizenship came under attack 130 years after it was last settled by the Supreme Court. She will look back at recent history on immigrants’ rights and look ahead to the new legal challenges taking shape under the Trump administration.
Recorded live as part of KALW’s Notes from the Edge podcast, hear one of the country’s leading civil rights litigators reflect on what prepared her for this fight and the road ahead.
