“What the Prisoner Advocacy Network Law Clinic
Learned from Its Participants and Clients”
The Prisoner Advocacy Network (PAN) is a client-centered and collaborative volunteer limited scope legal services law clinic that intervenes in mass incarceration at the pre-litigation phase of advocacy. PAN regularly asks its law clinic participants and clients to evaluation the program, participants, and services it delivers. This work explores the qualitative and quantitative evaluation results and how PAN adapts based on the survey feedback.

“Embodied Truths and Authentic Traumas:
The Constitution of Evidence and Credibility in Rape Cases”
When DNA evidence was introduced in the legal system, it was initially used in sexual assault cases because early DNA technology required semen or blood traces to create DNA profiles. In order to secure forensic evidence in rape cases, specialized programs to collect evidence including rape kits were implemented. According to science and technology studies, a strong belief in forensic science’s ability to solve crime developed, in which DNA evidence in particular gained considerable trust. In this presentation, I will argue that Norwegian courts place little emphasis on DNA evidence and other forensic evidence. I further argue this is related to how evidence and credibility is constituted in spatially specific temporalities (“chronotopes”), namely, the legal institutions’ distinct histories, practices and rules for presenting and interpreting information. This argument is made by comparing written legal decisions regarding criminal injuries compensation in two distinct legal institutions in Norway.
