Sonni Waknin is Managing Law Fellow, UCLA Voting Rights Project

Speaking on their research

“The Right to Vote During A Global Pandemic:
Improving Vote by Mail and Protecting In-Person Voting”

Dr. Matt Barreto and Sonni Waknin will discuss the barriers to the right to vote during the COVID-19 pandemic. The talk will cover both the challenges that have occurred with in-person voting and how social science research on voting barriers explains the current issues voters face in-person.  The talk will also discuss their research on vote by mail and how vote by mail can both present both a solution to possible Covid-19 spread due to in-person voting, while also erecting new barriers to the right to vote.  Sonni Waknin will present the UCLA VRP policy solutions and recommendations for how to administer the 2020 General Election during the pandemic.
