Tuesday, January 28, 2025 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm
Event Navigation

Join Urban Peace Movement (UPM) to learn about the community court watching program in Alameda County and how Berkeley Law students can get involved!
For individuals and their loved ones navigating the criminal legal system, and communities seeking to call out its harms, the criminal court process can be a black box. Enter court watching. By observing criminal court hearings, community members can gather data, uncover court practices, and play a direct role in holding criminal system actors accountable.
Urban Peace Movement (UPM) is dedicated to empowering communities and advocating for transparency and accountability within the justice system in Alameda County. UPM is a founding member of the Alameda County Participatory Defense Hub, which brings a community organizing model to support people facing charges, their families, and communities to impact the outcome of cases and transform the landscape of power in the court system.
Lunch Provided. Room 115.
Co-sponsored by the Policy Advocacy Clinic and the Berkeley Law Clinical Program.
