Event Navigation
The UC Berkeley AI and Society Initiative is hosting a community mixer on AI and cybersecurity on Wed Sep 23, 5:30 – 7 pm at Gateway 3350/3355. In the last few weeks, we have learned of OpenAI’s agents compromising HuggingFace systems, OpenAI agents using a German programming wiki to communicate, and Anthropic reporting several cases of Claude models gaining unauthorized access to real-world systems.
These revelations have resulted in more questions than answers. How are security breaches or failures typically discovered? Who is held responsible and how are they held accountable? How do “AI” technologies, particularly LLM agents and swarms, come into the picture?
We’ll be hearing from Clarence Chio, Co-Founder & CEO of Coverbase, Chris Hoofnagle, faculty director of the Berkeley Center for Law and Technology and Professor at the School of Information, and Starchy Grant, Principal Systems Administrator at the Electronic Frontier Foundation. They collectively discuss the current landscape of cybersecurity, the standard regulatory/legal frameworks across countries, and how AI technologies are changing the picture.
Food and drinks will be provided, and there will be opportunities for open socializing and mingling following the lightning talks.
Please RSVP by Sun. September 20th if you would like to attend. We look forward to seeing you there!
These events are open only to UC Berkeley Law students, faculty, and staff, unless otherwise noted.
