Event Navigation
We are delighted to welcome The Honorable Karin Immergut ’87 (D. Or.) and The Honorable Kelli Evans (CA Supreme) for our 2024 Judges-in-Residence Program. Judge Immergut and Justice Evans will participate in class visits and other programming. During this lunchtime panel, they will discuss judicial clerkships and their paths to the bench. All students are encouraged to attend!
Prior to joining the federal bench, Judge Immergut served as a Multnomah County Circuit Judge for a decade. She previously served as U.S. Attorney for the District of Oregon from 2003 until her appointment to the state bench in 2009. She has also served as an assistant U.S. attorney in both the District of Oregon and the Central District of California, a Multnomah County deputy district attorney, and in private practice in Washington, D.C. and Vermont. She graduated from Amherst College and the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law. Judge Immergut is the daughter of immigrants (her father was an Austrian chemist and her mother a Swedish mathematician).
A graduate of Stanford University and UC Davis Law School, Justice Evans has broad legal experience with a focus on civil rights and social justice. Prior to her appointment to the Supreme Court, Justice Evans served as an Alameda County Superior Court judge. Before joining the bench in 2021, she was Governor Gavin Newsom’s chief deputy legal affairs secretary and had been associate director of the ACLU of Northern California. In addition to experience in private practice, Justice Evans practiced in the Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Department of Justice and as an assistant public defender at the Sacramento County Public Defender’s Office. She is the first openly LGBTQ woman (and woman of color) to serve on the Supreme Court of California.
Lunch will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis. Please RSVP here so we have an accurate headcount.
