Blockchain – Bitcoin’s Secret Sauce

Friday, February 9, 2018 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Do you keep hearing about Bitcoin from That Guy but still have no idea how it works? Have you thought “what do we need Internet money for, when we already have online banking?” Are you chafing at reading articles in the New York Times about newly-minted millionaires who’ve seemingly done nothing, while you’re drowning in debt to buy a shot at a soul-crushing firm job? Wondering how a technology that guzzles more electricity than over half the countries on the planet can be valued so highly? Want to get your hands on some of the documents They don’t want you to see?

Then come join Blockchain@Berkeley Law as we welcome Hayden Parker, a security expert at Coinbase! Hayden will describe the blockchain data structure, the technology behind Bitcoin. His talk will also cover the economic and political origins of the technology, as well as show off some of its more interesting properties, such as censorship resistance, that make it a favorite of activists around the world.
