Berkeley Immigration Group (BIG) is proud of put on a week of educational lunch talks and fundraising efforts for our bond fund–affectionately called BIG WEEK! 

As a quick intro to what bond is: if someone is arrested or detained for immigration reasons, he/she is detained in a holding cell until the court appearance, which can be months away. Thus, we need an immigration bond to release this individual from custody until his/her court appearance. We’re working here to get people out of immigration detention and free them from the physical, mental, and emotional violence that they face in detention. The money used to post bond is returned to us when the individual has his/her court date, and we use the money to post bond for someone else.
