Event Navigation

What are the limits of freedom of expression, parody and critique in the branded world we live in today? Join Partners Amy Parigi and Ryan Bricker from Verso Law, who filed an influential amicus brief in the Supreme Court’s Jack Daniel’s v. VIP Products case, for a discussion on the boundaries between trademark protection and artistic freedom. Moderated by Professor Sonia Katyal, this conversation will examine when creative expression can invoke First Amendment protection against trademark claims and the practical implications for artists who incorporate commercial symbols into their work. Co-sponsored by the Berkeley Art Law and Finance Project and BCLT. Registration is highly recommended. Lunch provided on a first-come, first-served basis to students who register and stay for the entire program.
These events are open only to UC Berkeley Law students, faculty, and staff, unless otherwise noted.
