BCLT/BTLJ Law & Tech Speakers Series – Blockchain and the Law – Marta Belcher of Ropes and Gray, LLP

Tuesday, January 15, 2019 @ 12:55 pm - 1:55 pm

Ten years after bitcoin’s genesis, we will explore the questions about blockchain and the law that remain to be answered in 2019 and beyond: Could a decentralized world redefine law and order? How will regulators strike the balance between consumer protection and incentivizing innovation? How can governments around the world and industry cooperate to create global standards? How will developers be protected from liability for their participation in writing decentralized code?

This session will begin with a brief introduction to blockchain so that the entire presentation is understandable to all attendees regardless of any prior knowledge of blockchain. Marta Belcher, a technology and IP attorney at Ropes & Gray recognized for her work in blockchain law, will be joined by Shong Yin, an attorney in the intellectual property group.
