BCLT/BTLJ Law & Tech Speaker Series | Baker Botts, “How to Win a Patent Lawsuit at Every Stage in Your Career”

Baker Botts’ trial attorneys will walk through a real-world example showing the phases of a successful patent litigation—from developing, executing, and defending the strategy on appeal—showing how team members at different stages of their careers contributed to the win. A cross section of team members who helped on the case as a Summer Associate, an associate, a partner, and an appellate partner will present and each attorney provide their unique perspective to the case and their role.
Sarah Guske, Partner
Sarah Guske is a partner and the Department Chair of the San Francisco Intellectual Property Group. Sarah is a trial lawyer and has significant experience litigating software and electronics patent litigation cases in district court and at the Federal Circuit and the PTAB, including significant stand-up experience in each forum. Sarah previously served at Co-Chair of the firm’s PTAB Trials Group.

Keith Jurek, Associate
Keith Jurek works on a range of intellectual property matters, primarily focusing on patent prosecution. Mr. Jurek has experience preparing and prosecuting patent applications in a variety of technological areas including computer hardware and software.

Bradley Shigezawa, Associate
Bradley Shigezawa is an associate in the San Francisco office of Baker Botts. His practice focuses on patent litigation and patent prosecution. He has experience in patent litigation matters involving a variety of technologies, including software, Wi-Fi communications and webpage operations. Mr. Shigezawa also has experience drafting and prosecuting patent applications relating to a wide arrange of technologies, including software, machine learning, virtual/augmented reality, robotic devices, visual displays, and advertising.

Jeremy Taylor, Partner
Jeremy Taylor works closely with high-tech clients on intellectual property disputes and counseling. By developing deep relationships with technology companies in the San Francisco Bay Area and across the country, Mr. Taylor understands the goals of his clients and works to solve IP disputes accordingly. In addition to handling active lawsuits, as a trained engineer Mr. Taylor understands the needs of his clients and their respective industries allowing him to proactively identify emerging legal issues and minimize risks in future intellectual property disputes. In 2016, Mr. Taylor helped open the San Francisco office of Baker Botts.

The BCLT/BTLJ Law & Tech Speaker Series features local practitioners, bringing real world experience and practical legal knowledge to Berkeley Law students.
