Welcome to the Event Services Unit at Berkeley Law.
The Event Services Unit provides consultation and assistance for school-wide events at Berkeley Law. While we don’t plan events for the entire law school, we are available to offer suggestions to make your event a success. Please email Event Services to schedule a time to discuss your event.
The Event Services website has been designed to guide you through the fundamentals of event planning.
Starting with a checklist, you can address the three event pillars: scope (what do you want to achieve), time (how long do you have), and money (what resources are available). Once these have been established you can create a budget, to align event spending with your three pillars.
A completed checklist and budget in hand, you can begin executing your event plan. You will need to secure an event location, then determine the scope of your facilities and media services requests. After this you can arrange for travel and hotels for your hosted guests; the less you or your guests pay out of pocket the better. (Make sure to pay attention to the many University rules if you are hosting foreign guests.) A list of suggested caterers is available, with links to the entertainment forms and UC Berkeley expense limits.
We have two online registration sites (paid and unpaid options) available for your events, with suggestions to help you determine what information you’ll need from your guests. Don’t forget to publicize your event through the Berkeley Law and University calendars.
If you offer legal education credit the guidelines for MCLE credit and forms are also here. Maps for parking and directions to the law school can be used to guide your guests to the event. Finally, after the event you can process individual reimbursements for out-of-pocket expenses.
A series of event templates (budgets, timelines, event overviews, name tags, and table tents) are all available for download.
