The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA)

Elizabeth Siegel is a Public Health Analyst in the Office of Policy, Planning and Innovation at the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). In this position, Elizabeth works closely with SAMHSA’s senior HIV policy lead on driving the agency’s response to the National HIV/AIDS Strategy. In addition to her work on HIV, Elizabeth also supports the work of the Interagency Coordinating Committee on the Prevention of Underage Drinking (ICCPUD) and works as an analyst on a variety of other policy-related projects. Before joining SAMHSA, Elizabeth worked in the non-profit sector, including four years at the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance (DBSA), a national peer support organization. During her time at DBSA, Elizabeth created and managed an innovative online peer support group program for people with mood disorders and added 150 new support groups to DBSA’s national peer support network.

Elizabeth was selected as a Presidential Management Fellow in 2011 and holds master’s degrees in social service administration and public policy from the University of Chicago. She received a bachelor’s degree in history from Pomona College, California, where she also did extensive coursework in psychology. In her spare time, Elizabeth is an avid reader and home cook and enjoys traveling outside the country.
