Associate Director of Policy and Outreach and Senior Attorney, Maryanne McCormick, delivered a speech entitled Demand Response Energy Systems: Security, Privacy, and Policy at the Security Lunch at Stanford University. The speech discussed how the California Energy Commission and California Public Utilities Commission are pushing for demand response energy programs that will reduce peak energy demand. These systems aim to alter the electricity consumption choices of customers by providing real-time pricing information of energy usage. However, these new systems raise concerns regarding the privacy of activities in the home.
