On February 5, 2016, the Korea Law Center co-hosted its third in-house career talk with Hyun Park, Senior Vice President and General Counsel of PG&E Corporation. Hyun shared his candid reflections on his initial struggles in assimilating into the American culture after he immigrated from South Korea to the United States at the age of 12, to his early legal career at Latham & Watkins LLP (where he eventually made partner), and in-house moves to several companies before joining PG&E. On his career choices, Hyun emphasized the importance of not being afraid to jump at new opportunities and pursuing one’s passions. He also discussed the importance of developing one’s interpersonal and leadership skills as well as cultivating relationships with potential mentors.
The Korea Law Center co-sponsored the event with the Berkeley Center for Law and Business (BCLB), Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP, and the Berkeley Business Law Journal (BBLJ). The talk is part of a lunch series presentation on legal careers as in-house counsel at top global and technology companies. Upcoming talks will feature Salle Yoo, General Counsel of Uber Technologies, Inc., on September 12, 2016, and Marie Oh Huber, Senior Vice President and General Counsel of eBay Inc. (date TBD). Past presenters included Benjamin Lee, Twitter’s Vice President in charge of litigation and intellectual property matters and Deputy General Counsel; Andrew Kim, General Counsel of Netgear; and Bryan Ko, General Counsel of Logitech.
