More than 100 members of “the Berkeley Club,” the law school’s alumni organization in Korea, extended a warm welcome to Dean Erwin Chemerinsky at its annual meeting, on June 29, 2018. Dean Chemerinsky first spent time meeting Berkeley alumni and officials at important government bodies (the Korean Constitutional Court and Supreme Court), universities (Seoul National University law school), corporations (Samsung and Hyundai), and law firms.
Alumni then hosted Dean Chemerinsky during their annual banquet and reunion. Club President Baek Chang-hoon, of the law firm of Kim & Chang, and former Prime Minister Kim Hwang-sik led the welcome, along with master of ceremonies Judge Na Sang-hoon. Professor John Yoo provided a brief recap of the Korea Law Center’s busy 2017-18. Dean Chemerinsky gave an update on the state of the Law School, the increasing inclusion of global perspectives in class and in the student body, and the strong ties between the Korean legal community and Berkeley. Dean Chemerinsky welcomed the incoming class of Korean LL.M. students and kicked off a drawing for raffle prizes.
Dean Chemerinsky finished up his trip with visits to a high-tech innovation museum and a baseball game.
