Nan Joesten ’97, president-elect of the Boalt Hall Alumni Association, has been named a recipient of the 2006 University of California, Berkeley Foundation (UCBF) Trustees’ Citation for outstanding achievement in support of Boalt.
In addition, the Class of 2006 campaign co-chairs—whose fundraising drive broke all previous giving records—will receive the prestigious UCBF Young Bear Awards for exceptional work on behalf of the law school. Prisca Bae ’06, Laura Carter ’06, Cheryl Kawezya Hutchinson ’06, Gregory Orci ’06, Lon Sorensen ’06, and Cristal Torres ’06 will join Joesten at award ceremonies on February 8.
The six co-chairs of Boalt’s Class of 2006 Campaign achieved a 97 percent giving rate among their classmates, scoring the second highest participation rate among peer law school class gift campaigns nationwide. The campaign team developed a winning strategy that relied on a peer-to-peer approach and encouraged classmates to direct contributions to Boalt programs that were personally meaningful. In addition to serving on the Class of 2006 campaign, Bae and Hutchinson were co-presidents of their class. The six alumni are among nine volunteers chosen from throughout the Berkeley campus to receive the 2006 Young Bear Awards.
Joesten, an intellectual property and technology partner at Farella Braun + Martel in San Francisco, has long been a dedicated volunteer and Boalt supporter. Joesten is a member of Boalt’s Alumni Association Board of Directors and will serve as its next president. She served as chair of the law school’s Partners in Leadership law firm giving program during its 2005-06 fundraising year, during which the number of participating firms and organizations climbed from 34 to 58. Under Joesten’s leadership, the program, which now includes more than 930 alumni, exceeded its goals and raised $1.56 million in gifts and pledges.
