Paul H. Chan ’84 is the new president of the Denver Bar Association. Chan, university counsel to the University of Denver, assumed leadership of the 7,801-member organization on July 1 following a distinguished record of legal and community service.
Chan has been a strong voice for diversity in the legal profession, serving as chair of the Colorado Bar Association/Denver Bar Association Minorities in the Profession Committee, and as a member of the Colorado Bar Association’s board of governors. He was a founding member of the Colorado Asian Pacific American Bar Association and president of the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association. Chan received the 1999 Richard Marden Davis Award, recognizing professional and civic accomplishments by an attorney under 40.
During his year as president, Chan intends to reach out to diverse lawyers, including government attorneys and in-house counsel, and educate members of the Denver bar and the public on the need to protect the independence of the judiciary.
