Researchers trying to fill in the gaps of understanding who is filing patents and what drives the innovators presented various studies at the University of California Berkeley Center for Law & Technology intellectual property symposium.
Stuart Graham, a BCLT fellow, is in the middle of a study on what role patents play in entrepreneurship with plans to survey 8,000 to 10,00 companies in key sectors that have existed less than 10 years.
“There is much that we still don’t know about how patents work or don’t work for entrepreneurs. Our effort is aimed at helping us fill in some of those gaps or potholes,” Graham said.
