John Huerta ’68, general counsel of the Smithsonian Institution, is profiled in an August 15, 2005, article in the National Law Journal. Appointed in 1995, Huerta heads a nine-lawyer law department at the 6,000-employee institution. The article describes Huerta’s successful lobbying efforts in 1998 that persuaded Congress to extend federal employment law to cover workers at the Smithsonian, which encompasses 18 museums and galleries, the National Zoo and research centers. At Boalt, Huerta served as an associate editor of the California Law Review.
