On April 27, Professor Laurel Fletcher traveled to Sacramento to brief the State of California Commission on the Status of Women on forced labor in the state and the policies needed to address this problem. Fletcher, director of the International Human Rights Law Clinic, served as co-principal investigator on a study of forced labor in the United States and co-authored a report on the subject. The commission is a nonpartisan state agency that promotes equality and justice for girls and women through advocacy and education. The issues of the underserved are a top priority for the commission in 2005, with specific emphasis on victims of human trafficking. For more information, visit the commission’s website.
