Gerald Lopez, New York University law professor and founder of the Center for Community Problem Solving, delivered the 2005 Raven Lecture on Thursday, March 31, at 4 p.m. in Booth Auditorium. The lecture, “Making Movements Rebellious,” inaugurated a symposium-Social Justice Movements: Appraising the Past, Unlocking the Future-which took place the following day. Co-sponsored by Boalt’s Center for Social Justice and the UC Berkeley Institute for the Study of Social Change, the conference brought together leading scholars, attorneys and activists to assess the state of U.S. social justice movements, evaluate the ideas and strategies that have guided them, and discuss current challenges and future directions.
