On March 3, 2005, faculty, staff, students and alumni attended a campuswide forum on increasing diversity on the Berkeley campus. The forum began with a panel discussion, and attendees later participated in small working groups to address how they could help the campus create a California Diversity Project-a prioritized research agenda and community centerpiece for the campus on issues of diversity. In a keynote address, Dean Christopher Edley, co-founder of the Harvard Civil Rights Project, detailed his plans for the new Berkeley Civil Rights Institute.
