The Boalt Hall Alumni Association invites graduates, faculty and friends to its gala celebration honoring Irving Tragen ’45 with the Citation Award, the law school’s highest honor. Nan Joesten ’97 will also be presented with the Young Alumni Award and former Dean Edward Halbach, Jr. will be recognized with the Faculty Lifetime Achievement Award. Black tie optional. All graduates from classes 1960 and earlier are invited to a special reunion breakfast. James McManis ’67, former president of the Boalt Hall Alumni Association, will welcome you and he and new faculty member Professor David Oppenheimer will discuss the Law School’s revitalized Professional Skills Program.

9:00–10:15 am Implications of the BP Oil Spill, Boalt Hall Classroom (FULL)
Steven Weissman, Associate Director of Boalt’s Center for Law, Energy & the Environment (CLEE); and Sarah Barker Ball ’10, CLEE Energy & Cleantech Program Fellow; moderate a discussion of the impact of the Gulf of Mexico oil spill with David Caron ’83, C. William Maxeiner Distinguished Professor of Law, Co-Director, Miller Institute on Global Challenges and the Law, and President, American Society of International Law; and Elizabeth Cabraser ’78, Partner, Lieff Cabraser Heimann & Bernstein. Additional panelist(s) to be announced.  One hour of MCLE general credit is offered. Due to overwhelming interest, this panel has reached capacity.

10:30–11:45 am U.S. Supreme Court Term Review, Boalt Hall Classroom
Jesse Choper, Earl Warren Professor of Public Law and former Dean, leads a panel discussion of the 2009-2010 U.S. Supreme Court Term with Charles Weisselberg, Shannon C. Turner Professor of Law; and Tracy Westen ’67, Vice- Chairman and CEO, Center for Governmental Studies. Among the important cases that will be discussed are the decisions on corporate campaign expenditures, Miranda rights, gun control, and juvenile life sentencing. One hour of MCLE general credit is offered.

Noon–2:00 pm Alumni Luncheon with Boalt Hall Deans, Great Hall, The Bancroft Hotel (FULL)
Enjoy lunch with alumni and faculty and hear how the law school and legal education have evolved over the last 50 years from current Dean Christopher Edley, Jr., and former Deans Robert Berring ’74, Herma Hill Kay, Jesse Choper, and Ed Halbach. Doug Wolf ’70, Principal, PCG Equity, moderates. Due to overwhelming interest, this luncheon has reached capacity.

Check out Boalt’s new cutting edge law classrooms and tour the in-progress South Addition—a beautiful pavilion-style building constructed below the school’s courtyard.

2:15–3:30 pm Impacts of the New Financial Services Industry Legislation, Boalt Hall Classroom
Eric Talley, Rosalinde and Arthur Gilbert Professor of Law, Co-Director, the Berkeley Center for Law and Business, leads a discussion on how commerce and consumers may be impacted by the new financial services industry legislation.  Panelists include Prasad Krishnamurthy, Assistant Professor of Law, and Benson Cohen ’04. One hour of MCLE general credit is offered.

2:15–3:30 pm Inside the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, Boalt Hall Classroom
Jason Schultz, Co-Director, Samuelson Law, Technology & Public Policy Clinic, moderates a discussion with David Kappos ’90, Under Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property and Director of the USPTO. One hour of MCLE general credit is offered.

3:45–5:00 pm Wine Law Master Class, “The 21st Amendment in the 21st Century”; Boalt Hall Classroom 110
Richard Mendelson, Director of Boalt’s new Wine Law and Policy Program, discusses the diverse business, legal, and public policy issues facing the wine industry.   One hour of MCLE general credit is offered.

Sniff, swirl, and sip an assortment of wines produced by Boalt alumni and friends.
