About California Law Review

Dear Transfer Student,

I am writing to encourage you to become a member of the California Law Review (CLR). CLR was founded in 1912 and was the first student law journal published west of Illinois. We publish six issues per year and are completely student-run.

CLR membership is selected through an anonymously graded Write-On process. This requires each candidate to complete a Comment, Editing Packet, and Personal Statement during the ten-day Write-On competition. For incoming transfer students, the competition will take place from Monday, July 6, 2020 at 5:00 pm PT to Thursday, July 16, 2020 at 5:00 pm PT. Any potential transfer student may take part in the Write-On regardless of whether he or she has yet committed to Berkeley Law. Those who wish to participate should email CLR Senior Development Editor, Emma Atuire, at emma_atuire@berkeley.edu by July 1, 2020. In the body of the email, please provide the following information.

  • Your first, middle, and last name;
  • Preferred email address;
  • phone number; and
  • birthday

After you email me with your information and forms, I will be in touch with the logistics of your Write-on and how to register.

Sincerely,

Emma Atuire
