Asian Pacific American Bar Association of Silicon Valley Achievement Scholarship

The purpose of the Asian Pacific American Bar Association of Silicon Valley (APABA-SV) Achievement Scholarship is to recognize law students in the Bay Area who have overcome personal hardships or challenges; shown excellence and achievement in law school; or demonstrated leadership and service to the Asian Pacific American community.

Although not required, preference will be given to law students who will be interning in the summer at a non-profit organization that serves the Asian Pacific American community.

Berks County Community Foundation – Howard Fox Memorial Law Scholarship

In 1978 the Howard Fox Memorial Law Scholarship Fund was established by Helen and Richard Fox and Friends to honor the memory of their son who, as a proud member of the Berks County Bar Association, Pennsylvania, served as a young attorney in the Public Defender’s Office. The award is presented annually at the Berks County Bar Association Law Day Event.  It is given to help fund a deserving Berks county, Pennsylvania, resident embarking on his or her second year at an accredited Law School.

The William McClain Scholarship is offered to an African-American student attending any ABA accredited law school who is a Cincinnati, Ohio resident and has demonstrated leadership skills, a commitment to the Cincinnati community and financial need.

Cabaniss, Johnston Scholarship

The goal of the Cabaniss, Johnston Scholarship is to assist and recognize second-year law students from Alabama.  Applicants must be Alabama residents and must be enrolled in their second year at an ABA-accredited law school.  Academic achievement, character, and financial need are considered.  A runner-up scholarship of $1000 may be awarded at the selection committee’s discretion.

Community Foundation Sonoma County – Michael F. O’Donnell Memorial Scholarship

The Michael F. O’Donnell Memorial Scholarship Fund was established to honor the memory of Michael F. O’Donnell who was recognized as a brilliant litigator distinguished by the qualities of supreme decency, honesty, humility and humanity. This fund will award scholarships to students currently enrolled in law school or pursuing a law-related career. Edwards Scholarship Fund

The Edwards Scholarship is for Boston residents only. It is open to women and men of all races, nationalities and religions who are less than 25 years old and have lived within the Boston city limits since the beginning of their junior year of high school. Scholarships are granted based on financial need, scholastic ability, and good character. Recipients are encouraged to remember the fund when they are gainfully employed in their chosen professions. Donations to the fund are acknowledged in writing and are completely tax deductible.

Frank H. Lang Merit Scholarship

The Frank H. Lang Merit Scholarship is available to entering or 1L law students who graduated from high school in one of the following Central Valley counties: Kern, Tulare, Fresno, Kings, Madera, Merced, Mariposa, Stanislaus, San Joaquin, Tuolumne, or Calaveras.  The scholarship is awarded solely on merit and not on need.

Fresno County Bar Association Scholarship

Applicants must be residents of California’s Fresno County who are students in good standing at a California law school accredited by the State Bar. George Hopper Memorial Scholarship

The George Hopper Memorial Scholarship offered by the Fresno County Young Lawyers Association will award one scholarship to a second or third year law student.  Applicants must be in good standing in the law school and demonstrate overall excellence and accomplishment in pursuit of his or her Juris Doctorate.  Particular consideration is given to civic and academic involvement of the applicant, scholastic achievement, and the applicant’s demonstrated financial need. Applicants must demonstrate a connection to the San Joaquin Valley as well as a desire to enter the practice of law in either Fresno, Madera, Merced, Kings or Tulare County. Haneman-Perskie Memorial Foundation Scholarship

Each award is a one-year grant paid directly to the law school in the name of the recipient. To be eligible for the scholarship, an applicant must be a New Jersey resident admitted to law school. The grant is for one year and applicant may re-apply for the second and following years. The award shall be based on an academic ability, financial need, leadership potential, and character.

The Women’s Section of the Contra Costa County Bar Association awards scholarships annually to students who have completed at least one year of law school and have a demonstrable connection to Contra Costa County. Hugh W. Goodwin Bar Association Scholarship

The Hugh W. Goodwin Bar Association will award a grant to a law student from the San Joaquin Valley.  The students must have a connection with one of the following counties: Calaveras, Stanislaus, Tuolumne, Mariposa, Merced, Madera, Fresno, Kings, Tulare, Inyo and Kern.  Along with the application, students must submit an essay of 250 words or less stating why he or she desires the scholarship.  Students may also submit up to two letters of reference.  Applications should be mailed to the address provided.

This scholarship was established as a memorial to the late Presiding Justice Hollis G. Best to encourage and support outstanding academic achievement and commitment to service by law students. Candidates must be law students who have successfully completed at least one year of law school. Strong preference will be given to current residents of Fresno, Kern, Kings, Madera, Mariposa, Merced, Stanislaus, Tulare or Tuolumne Counties. Kern County Women Lawyers Foundation Scholarship

The Kern County Women Lawyers Association (KCWLA) of Bakersfield, California is an organization that supports and promotes women in the profession as well as issues of gender, diversity and equality.  The KCWLA, through its Foundation, awards scholarships to both female and male law students, each year, in May or June.  In order to receive a scholarship, the applicant must have ties to Kern County, California, have financial need and/or hardship and have good academic standing and scholarship.  The Foundation is interested in candidates who have interests and experiences concerning issues facing the procession and, in particular, those issues important to women.  Each year, at least one scholarship for a second, third or fourth year law student is awarded.

La Raza Lawyers Association of Fresno – Mario Olmos Scholarship

The La Raza Lawyers Association of Fresno is pleased to announce the Mario Olmos Scholarship.  Since 1980, La Raza Lawyers Association of Fresno has awarded scholarships to deserving law students who have demonstrated academic achievement, leadership ability, involvement in the Latino community, financial need, and ties to California’s Central Valley.  Since 1991, the scholarship fund has been dedicated to the memory of the late Superior Court Judge Mario G. Olmos, a Fresno County jurist and respected community leader. This year’s annual banquet will be held in Fresno on March 2, and scholarship recipients are expected to attend to receive their awards.

La Raza Lawyers Association of Santa Clara County

La Raza Lawyers Association of Santa Clara County provides grants to encourage and advance the social, cultural, economic and legal equality of minorities. The scholarships are available to La Raza students who 1) are from the Bay Area; or 2)attend Santa Clara University, Lincoln, UC Berkeley, USF , UC Hastings, Stanford, Golden Gate University, UC Davis, or McGeorge Schools of Law. Rhode Island Bar Foundation – Thomas F. Black, Jr. Memorial Scholarship

The objective of the Rhode Island Bar Foundation’s Scholarship Program is to support high standards in legal practice. It provides financial assistance to Rhode Island residents who show promise of becoming outstanding lawyers and need assistance to study at quality law schools. Scholarship awards shall be exclusively for tuition and related expenses for persons who enroll as full-time students in programs leading to the award of the L.L.B. or J.D. degree offered by law schools located in one of the United States or District of Columbia and accredited by the American Bar Association. Each scholarship will be made on the basis of demonstrated financial need, superior academic performance, community and public service, and demonstrated contacts with and commitment to the State of Rhode Island. The award is for prospective first year law students.

San Mateo County Women Lawyers Education Foundation

Scholarships are available to all students, both male and female, and are based on financial need, academic excellence, residential or other ties to San Mateo County, and involvement in activities, whether legal, scholastic, public, private or community. Applicants for the scholarship should submit a letter stating their qualifications for the award and the information about why they should be chosen.  Please include in the letter, or as a separate attachment, the following information:  All law school scholarships received and in what amounts, specify how the law school education is being financed, and include a copy of the current law school transcript.

Scholarship Foundation of Santa Barbara

The Santa Barbara Scholarship Foundation awards scholarships to applicants who graduated from a high school in Santa Barbara County, California, or to adult re-entry students who resided in Santa Barbara for at least the last three years as nonstudents. Applicants must be full-time graduate students in the current academic year at approved U.S. colleges or universities.

The George A. Cavalletto Law Scholarship Fund is awarded to full-time law students. Applicants must have originally graduated from a high school in Santa Barbara County and be studying in a standard academic-year law program. Applicants must complete a Scholarships Foundation of Santa Barbara graduate application and submit with all supporting materials by January 31. A personal interview in Santa Barbara, California is required in March. Application available online.

 

Sonoma County Women-In-Law Honorable Gayle Guynup Scholarship

The annual scholarship is offered by the Sonoma County Women in Law and administered by the Community Foundation of Sonoma County to assist a law student in completing his or her education. The scholarship committee will consider the following attributes:

1) Sonoma County residence
2) academic achievement
3) financial need
4) second- or third-year law student status and
5) demonstrated interest in promoting equal opportunity and justice for all women.

Candidates must have graduated from a public or private high school in Ventura County, have completed the first year of law school at an accredited college or university in California, and demonstrate financial need.
