An Unexpected Switch in Practice Area Brings Growth and Satisfaction: Tomomi Glover ('06)

When Plan A Didn't Work, Staying In Touch With Friends Resulted in a Better Plan B

I recently started a new job, which involved a practice area switch I was not expecting a few months ago. I was initially practicing in the IP & Technology Group at a law firm and looking for either in-house or smaller firm positions that were closer to home.  Although my original plan did not work out, I am lucky that a friend talked me into interviewing at her employment law firm.  It was a position that I did not have on my radar, but one that turned out to work very well for me.  So my job search was not a linear process by any means, and I confirmed that networking with colleagues seems to be the best way to secure a position.  I am now enjoying learning new skills and am getting more comfortable with the idea that developing a career does not always follow the path that you set out for yourself.”
