These guidelines are designed to answer questions, and provide information and directions to the following types of visitors to the Law School.

Visiting Scholars are people with advanced degrees who come to Boalt, usually from abroad, to do research for a significant period of time (usually 30 days or longer).

Guest Scholars are people who are generally similar to Visiting Scholars, but who come to Boalt to do research for less than 30 days. They may use Boalt's public facilities, but they require approval by the Associate Dean to check out library books.

Visiting Faculty are professors who accept an invitation to teach at Boalt extended to them by the Appointments Committee or the professor in charge of curricular staffing.

This information was current and accurate as of the posting date, but it is not intended as legal advice and should be treated only as an informal guideline.
