Lesson 1.3: Adding and Removing Links

Two Types of Links

There are two types of links: one that links to your own files in your web folder, and the other to other websites in the World Wide Web. It's simple to add links to your page!

First, highlight the text that you want to become the link.

To Link to a File in Your Web Folder

If that file that you want to link to (such as a document) is on your computer, make sure that it is located in your web folder.

Click on the little yellow folder icon by the word "Target" on your properties toolbar.

After clicking, you will now to prompted to select the file that you want to link to. Simply find the file and select it. (Note: You should save your page to your web folder before doing this so that it will create the correct link. Otherwise, it will prompt you about doing so.)

Now your text should look similar to this:

To Link to a Page on the World Wide Web

Click in the "Link" text box on your properties toolbar and enter the website that you want to link to. Make sure you include the http:// in front and the www. as well, if necessary.

To Remove a Link

If you made a mistake and no longer want to have a certain link, links are also easy to remove. Simply highlight the text of the link and then delete the link that appears in the link text box in the properties toolbar (see the above picture). Then the link (the underline and color) should disappear from your text.
