Welcome to the Career Development Office
The Career Development Office has many resources available for you, including a library of print materials, a staff of experienced attorney counselors and resources specialists, various online career systems, and our own publications on selected job search topics.
First visit? If this is your first time using our online services, please read our Getting Started guide.
Appointments with Career Counselors: The CDO is always available to assist alumni with career transitions. However, due to very high student demand for career counseling sessions at the start of the fall semester, the following schedule represents our availability to counsel alumni/ae.
August 1 - September 30:
Brief telephone or email consultation for urgent matters only.
For non-urgent situations, our counselors will respond to your request after October 1.
Limited service for teaching or judicial clerkship candidates.
October 1 - July 31:
Full service career counseling, including in-person appointments.
(Please note that the CDO does not review writing samples.)
Between October and July, if you would like an appointment with one of our career counselors, please contact us at 510-642-4567, and our receptionist will do a quick intake assessment with you. You will hear back from one of our counselors in within a week to set up an appointment. If your question is very urgent in nature, please tell the receptionist, and she will determine if a counselor is available to offer brief advice by phone.

Getting Started Online
The CDO offers several sophisticated online tools, listed below, to facilitate your career-related needs. Please take a moment to review our Getting Started guide if you have not used them before.
b-Line (Boalt Careers Online)
Boalt Hall's online b-Line system offers you the ability to create or update your user profile, upload a resume, search for job opportunities targeted to Boalt alumni. It gives you the ability to set up customized job searches which will automatically notify you of opportunities which match your self-selected criteria. If you haven't used the system before, please email the CDO to get started. (Please include full name and year of graduation.)

Boalt offers extensive guidance and resources to assist you through the judicial clerkship application process, including a specially designed online database of federal judges.

The California Bar Association offers free career counseling resources to its members. If you are experiencing any challenges with your career, call 800-341-0572 and a LAP consultant can arrange up to three free counseling sessions with a career counselor who specializes in assisting attorneys who wish to make a positive career change.
