Catalogs

UC online catalogs

LawCat | Pathfinder | Melvyl

LawCat is the online catalog specifically for the law library at the UC Berkeley School of Law, Boalt Hall. A search in LawCat will retrieve items held in the Robbins Collection and elsewhere in the Law Library (but not in other Berkeley or University of California libraries).

Melvyl is the online catalog for the libraries of all of the University of California campuses, and thus includes items held in the Law Library and the Robbins Collection. Melvyl also searches the library holdings of the California Academy of Sciences, California Historical Society, California State Library, Center for Research Libraries, Graduate Theological Union, Hastings College of the Law, and Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory.

Pathfinder is the online catalog for most libraries on the UC Berkeley campus and is the best resource for searching items in Berkeley's Doe/Moffitt Libraries (known collectively as the Main library). Law Library holdings, however, are not listed in Pathfinder, so a search in this catalog will not yield items held there or in the Robbins Collection.

Incunables in the Robbins Collection

Although most of the incunables in the Robbins Collection have been fully cataloged and can be retrieved through a search in LawCat or Melvyl, we maintain a separate Catalog of Incunables that lists the incunables by their Goff numbers.

Manuscripts in the Robbins Collection

Robbins manuscript holdings are not currently searchable in LawCat. We maintain a Manuscript Catalog web page with full descriptions of approximately half of our manuscript collection (Robbins MSS 1 – 120). Descriptions of our other manuscript holdings are available in hard copy in the Robbins reading room. We are in the process of making all of our manuscript holdings searchable in our online catalog; in the meantime, please ask the reference librarian if you have questions about any manuscript holdings not represented on the Manuscript Catalog web page.

The Glasgow Collection

The Robbins Collection acquired the entire library of the Royal Faculty of Procurators of Glasgow, Scotland. Although these items have been individually cataloged and are retrievable in LawCat and Melvyl, Robbins maintains a separate Glasgow Collection catalog that lists the holdings of the original library together in one place to serve as a record of a working library used by Scottish lawyers.

Electronic Resources

UC Berkeley subscribes to electronic resources on a wide range of academic subjects. Most of these resources are commercial products licensed for use at UC Berkeley, requiring a proxy server for access from off campus. Among the available electronic resources are the online databases published by BREPOLiS, which include Monumenta Germaniae Historica (MGH), Ut per litteras apostolicas, In principio, International Medieval Bibliography, the Library of Latin Texts, and the Database of Latin Dictionaries. The Art History/Classics library maintains a list of useful resources.

Digital Scriptorium

Images of some of the Robbins Collection's illuminated manuscripts are represented in the Digital Scriptorium, an image database of medieval and Renaissance manuscripts.
