Madhuri M. Messenger '98 joined Boalt Hall in 2007 as the founding Executive Director of the Honorable G. William & Ariadna Miller Institute for Global Challenges and the Law. With a record of involvement in international legal work, Messenger has experience with development NGO's, international organizations, and a law firm.
At the American Bar Association's Asia Law Initiative, Messenger's work focused on promoting the rule of law in developing countries. In that capacity, she managed an extensive rule of law program in the Philippines, administered a judicial integrity project in Indonesia, and worked on a regional anti-corruption program. As Co-coordinator for Judicial Reform for the ABA's international rule of law initiatives, Messenger served as an expert and information resource for issues pertaining to the judiciary.
Prior to joining the ABA, Messenger worked at Global Rights, an international human rights NGO, where she designed human rights related training programs for lawyers, judges, and human rights defenders. Immediately following law school, Messenger spent two years working as a litigator at Dechert, LLP. In addition, Messenger has held fellowships at the United Nations and Human Rights First, through which she has done in-depth studies of peacekeeping.
Messenger's publications include "Globalisation of Law Enforcement Efforts" Journal of Money Laundering Control Vol 4, No 4, 2001 and "Crisis Management" Business Mexico; Vol 8/9, Issue 12/1, December 1998/January 1999.
