Virginia Abascal, an award-winning theatre director for 23 years, has been coaching students studying trial law at the UC Berkeley School of Law in courtroom presentation skills since the late nineties. Guest judges who preside over our student final trials say students coached by Ms. Abascal are more effective than the professional lawyers who come into their own courtrooms. In addition to her work with law students on campus, Ms. Abascal coaches practicing attorneys individually and in classes at firms like Cooley Godward and Orrick, Herrington and Sutcliffe. She also works with politicians, business people, teachers and actors to develop and improve oral presentation skills. Ms. Abascal received her MA in speech and drama from CSU, Chico, and her BA in English, drama and speech and secondary teaching credential at San Francisco State University. She was a teaching fellow at UCB in 2008-2009. See Ms. Abascal's website at http://virginiaabascal.com for more details about how she helps law students learn to make their arguments more powerfully in the courtroom.
