Helene Kim is the executive director of International and Executive Legal (IELE) Programs. Ms. Kim graduated from Harvard-Radcliffe College (A.B. summa cum laude) and Harvard Law School (J.D.) Ms. Kim has over fifteen years of experience as a global strategy consultant and international lawyer focused on Asia transactions, and has lectured and conducted research on topics related to globalization, IT innovation and cross-border intellectual property protection
She began her career with the San Francisco office of Morrison & Foerster, where she focused on securities, intellectual property and insurance litigation matters.
Prior to coming to UC-Berkeley, Ms. Kim worked with a leading IT consultancy firm on developing research papers and case studies related to competition and innovation in the software industry. From 1998-2001, Ms. Kim served as Special U.S. Counsel to the PRC government-sponsored Great Wall Law Firm in Shanghai, under the auspices of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation (MOFTEC), where she advised multi-nationals and state-owned enterprises on the structuring of Sino-foreign equity joint ventures. Ms. Kim also worked as a management consultant with McKinsey & Co. in Seoul and Shanghai in the late 1990's, where she focused on globalization strategies and advised Korean conglomerates on portfolio restructuring and cross-border acquisitions. She co-authored several pioneering articles on China investment strategies for the South Korean leading economic journal Maeilkyungjaeshimbun. Ms. Kim served on the AAPI National Leadership Council for then-Senator Obama's Presidential Campaign in '08.
