Law and History: Foundation Seminar is designed to introduce the discipline of legal history, and to consider its contribution to broader areas of legal scholarship. While many of the assigned readings are taken from episodes in the legal history of the United States, the seminar does not aim to trace chronologically the legal history of any particular nation or legal tradition. Rather, seminar readings have been chosen to illustrate characteristic areas of research, methods of inquiry, and interpretative controversies within the contemporary practice of legal history.
