This course is an introduction to federal bankruptcy law in which we
will study the rights and duties of debtors, and the rights of secured
and unsecured creditors under the Bankruptcy Code. We will discuss the
policy considerations that underlie the Code, and study the provisions
of the Code that apply in both business and consumer cases (e.g., the
powers of a bankruptcy trustee, the automatic stay, fraudulent
conveyances, and the bankruptcy courts). The course will include an
overview of both business reorganizations under chapter 11 and consumer
cases. There are no prerequisites for this class.
