The constitutional and statutory role of courts in the federal system, with focus on the jurisdiction of the federal courts, their relation to the courts of the States, and the roles of federal and state law. Among the topics considered are Congressional control of the distribution of judicial power; Supreme Court review of state court decisions; the law applied in civil actions in the federal district courts; the original jurisdiction of the district courts.
