This is a 4-unit introductory course on Constitutional Law. The course concentrates on the notions of liberty and equality under the Constitution, often located in the Commerce Clause as well as the Fifth, Thirteenth, and Fourteenth Amendments. The aim of the course is not limited to studying the Supreme Court���s doctrinal assertions, but includes assessing the forms and politics of constitutional reasoning, with special attention given to the role of the Court in a constitutional democracy.
The text for the course is Brest, Levinson, Balkin, & Amar, Processes of Constitutional Decisionmaking, 6th edition.
This course satisfies the Constitutional Law Requirement.
