This course satisfies the professional responsibility ABA requirement for graduation and prepares the student to take the MPRE exam. It is a lecture course where the class will cover both the ABA Rules of Professional Conduct and the California Rules of Professional Conduct. The class will also cover applicable Business & Professions Code sections. We will take a problem approach to analyzing the ethical principles that apply in the actual practice of law.
Professor Carol M. Langford (clangford.com)has been an adjunct professor both at the University of San Francisco School of Law and at Hastings College of the law and has been teaching since 1993. She is the past Chair of the California Committee on Professional Responsibility and Conduct and the Law Practice Management & Technology Section. She Chaired the Council of Section Chairs, and was the Chair of the ABA Intellectual Property Ethics Committee. Ms. Langford has co-authored the nationally adopted textbook Legal Ethics in the Practice of Law (Lexis, 3rd Ed.) and The Moral Compass of the American Lawyer: Truth, Justice, Power & Greed (Ballantine). She practices law in Walnut Creek and her specialty is providing ethics advice and representation to lawyers, doctors, nurses and real estate brokers.
