his course goes beyond accident law to examine defamation, invasion of privacy, fraud and deceit, and other torts that usually occur in the business setting (including consumer fraud). The torts considered in this course often touch upon constitutional concerns (e.g., free speech, limits on punitive damages) and involve the high value litigation typical of major "corporate" law firms and consumer class action firms. The subjects examined in this course may vary based on student interest.

Students may meet the course requirements either by completing an in-class examination or by writing a substantial paper (30 pages).
