This class examines the legal and policy issues raised by the credit card industry. Credit cards and other forms of electronic payment have been identified as a cause of the financial crisis, and many of the reforms growing out of the crisis, both those proposed and enacted, have centered on the industry. This class looks at those issues as well as the privacy, security and competition policy issues raised by the industry. In short, if you have ever wondered how credit cards work, who is responsible when something goes wrong, and why the industry attracts so much attention from lawyers, lawmakers and courts, this class is for you.
