This course starts with introducing or "re-introducing" students to basic (1) business bankruptcy issues and (2) possible models for dealing with a bankruptcy that affects business entities with assets and/or creditors in more than one country. We will then compare how various countries in Latin America, Asia, Western Europe. Eastern Europe and the "British Commonwealth" deal with the issues in (1) above. Finally, we will learn how new Chapter 15 of our Bankruptcy Code and how countries' counterparts address the special problems presented by the bankruptcy of a business entity with assets and/or creditors in more than one country.

Prerequisites:
Students should be urged but not required to take a basic bankruptcy course before taking this course.
